A lot of the time in meetings the issue of Photography / Videography style comes up. By style I mean the way in which you shoot. Essentially there are a few basic styles and then lots of variations in between, I aim to cover them in the next couple of blog posts to give everyone a clear understanding.
Documentary style wedding Photography / Videography means taking a laid back observational approach. It revolves around capturing natural emotion and reaction, with as little interference as possible to couples and guests.
It's arguably the style which PS is most known for, and what most of our couples are looking for. This style suits couples and wedding parties that just want to get on with their day and aren't too bothered by posing or staged shots. Documentary style is the Wedding day stylistically 'documented' through zoomed lenses and discreet camera operators.
Documentary Photography is a favorite among couples who are not so comfortable in front of the camera but still want the full coverage from the day. At PS we don't fully sway towards Documentary style although it does heavily influence our style. We do like arty styles as well as the candid shots Documentary style Photography creates. In my opinion the Documentary style provides the truest representation of the day and the characters in it. Although artistic posing and dramatic lighting can 'beautify' a natural set up.
